There are 4,000 species of lizards all over the world. Lizards are very old adaptable reptiles which survived the dinosaurs. The essence was developed in the Canary Islands. Tenerife is also called the Island of the dragons because there are many lizards there and it is where the famous dragon tree grows. Iguanas, geckos, chameleons and agamids also belong to the lizard species. They are found almost all over the world and they prefer to live under stones, in caves made on earth and in other types of shelter. They are frequently seen sunbathing on the rocks because as they are cold-blooded animals and they need to absorb the sun. They live in deserts, semi-deserts, steppes and mountains.
They have elongated slightly flattened bodies, a long tail, a wedge-shaped small head, four legs and a scaly skin. Lizards are able to drop their tails when they are threatened by a predator and then the tail grows again. Their eyes are striking since they can sometimes move independently from one another. They have a long tongue and feed on spiders, flies, beetles, worms, and larvae. Their skin color goes from ochre to brown and as its color camouflages with nature, it offers good protection. They lay eggs from which the young animals hatch. Lizards can live more than 50 years. Their natural enemies are birds of prey, snakes, small mammals and hens.
Lizard in Mythology: The Canary Islands are also called the Islands of the Dragons. Their original native, the Guanches, worshiped the dragon tree and considered lizards as very sacred animals. The Maori considered the lizards as the master builders of the world. Indigenous Australians continue to worship them. In ancient Egypt, they were related to Serapis and represented the resurrection and renewal. In Greece, they were related to Hermes, (Mercury for the Romans). It is said that one of this animals was sacrificed by the God of the Sun, Apollo, to achieve the eternal light. They symbolize happiness and wisdom in life. In Polynesia, they are worshipped as the god of fire and strength. In many cultures, they are related to dragons and are worshipped due to their strength and majesty. For the shamans, the lizards are an important help as travel companions in dreams and in astral travels. In the starry sky, it can be seen Lacerta (Latin for "Lizard"). It is a small faint constellation.
The lizard in the interpretation of dreams: When these animals appear to us with their old energy, they want to remind us our inner strength and our ancestors. They are the connection with our old memories.
The Lizard Essence has a great regenerative power and teaches us to trust our intuition and to follow our inner light.
On the body level: On the energy level, it helps us in the case of psoriasis, cracked skin and other skin problems. In the same way as its dropped tail grows again, the essence strengthens our self-healing capacity and our power of regeneration.
Emotional: The essence connects us to our inner fire. In the same way as the lizards regain their strength by lying in the sun, the essence helps us get in touch with our inner fire and regain strength. The essence is rather yang (male energy) so it helps us integrate this energy to our lives. In the case of problems with the father, a negative paternal image or problems with the authority, the essence helps develop an inner balance, harmony and tranquility.
Spiritual: In the same way as lizards drop their tail and regenerate it, the essence helps us "drop" old patterns and “generate" new behaviors. It helps us discover the healing power of the fire within us and stimulate our self-healing power. Lizards are ancient animals, with a great evolutionary path, which can help us to reconcile ourselves with our origin, our ancestors and our culture.
